Learning for Everyone: How Hermes Fulfilment Redefines Frontline Workforce Training
How do you make learning accessible to a workforce spread across 16 locations worldwide—especially when many employees don’t work at fixed desks? Hermes Fulfilment, a warehousing and e-commerce specialist, has found the answer: learning is no longer an optional extra, but a core part of everyday work for its diverse workforce.
The Challenge
Robotics and AI are rapidly transforming the logistics sector, pushing many employees—especially in frontline and operational roles—to the limits of their skills. At Hermes Fulfilment, this workforce is highly diverse: employees represent 69 nationalities, speak many different first languages, and have varying educational backgrounds.
Previous training programs were often too academic and poorly aligned with the realities of frontline shift work. Embedding learning sustainably into daily operations proved to be the biggest obstacle.
The clearly stated goal was therefore ambitious but simple: training should not be a privilege for a select few, but a shared success factor that creates tangible value for all employees—regardless of role, workplace, or location.

The Solution
Hermes embedded learning firmly into its corporate vision and, with Masterplan, found the right technical platform to integrate training seamlessly into employees’ daily work.
Learning time is now a defined operational target, and monthly reports on activity and completion rates ensure ongoing commitment from site leadership. More than 90 learning ambassadors act as personal points of contact, supporting employees with both technical and content-related questions.
Language barriers—which had previously been a major obstacle—are addressed through Masterplan learning paths offering content in 11 audio languages and 16 subtitle languages. Dedicated on-site learning stations with platform access ensure that training is truly available to everyone.
In addition, social and blended learning formats, learning challenges, and site rankings boost motivation. Learning achievements are celebrated publicly within teams and across locations through regular certificate ceremonies, making progress visible and valued.
The results speak for themselves: eLearning Journal recognized Hermes Fulfilment’s frontline learning initiatives with an award in the “Learning Platforms” category.
